Since Adult Swim has been showing Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell for a long time now (at various points) I’m gonna focus only on the two new shows Toonami brought for us.
Deadman Wonderland first and foremost had an interesting first episode. It wasn’t amazing and I have a feeling that the full premise has yet to be revealed but it did what any first episode should, left me wanting to see more. Nothing really stood out about the animation or character designs, but the plot provided just enough intrigue and action to stand out. My biggest complaint is that some of the voices are annoying, but that is most likely cuz I’m used to watching original dubs. Also while the whole trial was interesting, the initial ‘someone sent to a prison that is more than just that’ plot is kinda overused. Overall though, I will be checking back on Deadman next week.
If Deadman was enough to warrant a watch of at least episode two, Casshern Sins’s premier sold me on the entire show. While a protagonist with amnesia is well beyond cliche, it was really refreshing to see a main character who is a straight up badass from the get go instead of the ‘person discovers and learns to use powers’ thing that plagues many an anime. Thematically Casshern presents a bleak, dying world that is somewhat bland but the contrast with Casshern himself and his bright perfect form makes up for the somewhat boring background. The little girl robot’s (Ringo?) voice did get on my nerves but the other characters were fine. With an interesting setting, characters and themes(well hinted at themes) Casshern Sins is definitely a must watch for myself and should be for the rest of the Toonami Faithful out there. Plus there are sweet ass robot fights, do you really need more?
Overall with T.O.M. handling business like he never left, a game review, two interesting new shows, Toonami’s much awaited returned delivered. This in spite of more questionable show choices(fuck Bleach…seriously it needs to die)

Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day: Four-year-old comic book fan Anthony Smith is deaf in his right ear and has hearing damage in his left. He also refused to wear his hearing aid (which he calls “Blue Ear” because it is blue), because “superheroes don’t wear hearing aids.” So in a long-shot attempt to help her son, Anthony’s mom emailed Marvel for ideas.
“She didn’t know a specific person to write to here at Marvel, and even figured it might get caught in our spam filters, but she sent it in anyway, because that’s the kind of great parent Christina is,” said Marvel editor Bill Rosemann. “And it was her inspiring effort to help her son that touched so many of us here. As a fellow parent of a toddler, I can understand where she’s coming from, so I forwarded the email around the rest of Editorial, asking what we could do to help, and like when Cap yells, ‘Avengers Assemble,’ the gang leapt into action.”
Not only did Anthony receive an image of the superhero Hawkeye, who lost 80 percent of his hearing back in the ’80s and wore hearing aids — Anthony also received a drawing of a brand-new superhero: “Blue Ear.”
Now, with his hearing aid back in, Anthony is able to “fight battles and help people.” His preschool, for hearing-impaired kids, recently hosted a superhero week to inspire the students to overcome their limitations.
DON’T miss the video. It’s the best thing you’ll see all day.
